As the days have got shorter the hundreds of non-working streetlights have become more noticeable. I’ve received many comments from residents frustrated by the lack of action by the Conservative-run Essex County Council, in repairing them – a frustration I wholeheartedly share.
I recently wrote to the deputy cabinet member responsible for highway maintenance and their response was less than reassuring. I don’t know about you but I’ve no idea how long it will take to replace 6600 lights. Some residents have been waiting not just months, but years for their lights to be repaired.
Unfortunately, it appears that even as an Essex County Councillor, my concerns are falling on deaf ears.
From previous enquiries with Essex County Council, I’ve been told that faulty lights won’t be repaired but replaced under this current LED rollout project but with no public plan, we are all just being kept in the dark.
