I've received the following today from Rayleigh Town Council...
Following the Government’s announcement that open-air markets may re-open, the market will return gradually on Wednesday 3rd June, but in a limited capacity, only 4 stalls will be permitted.
This is due to the need to keep to social distancing and to be considerate to the other business already open in the High Street who are operating a queuing system outside their premises. There are a number of business open adjacent to the market and therefore this restricts the area for the market to be open safely.
The four stalls will be fruit and veg, household goods, bread and groceries.
The situation will be assessed on Wednesday and on a weekly basis. The Town Council appreciates that other trader will be very keen to return but it is the safety of our residents and traders that is a priority.
This information will be put on our Facebook page and website to inform members of the public.
The operator of the snack bar in the King George V Playing Field plans to reopen on Tuesday 2nd June. A one-way system will be in operation and 2-metre distancing has been marked out for customers. He will also take card payments
