Earlier this year along with Cllr Cripps and RDC planning officers, I met with representatives from Lidl to discuss their proposed new store for our area. While many welcome the prospect of more choice and affordable groceries, it’s essential that any development works for the whole community.
A big part of our conversation focused on traffic and access. I’ve also been in contact with Essex Highways to raise concerns about the impact on local roads — especially at peak times. We talked about how a robust Section 106 agreement (developer contributions) can help fund improvements that benefit residents, not just the developer.
This isn’t a done deal — and your voice matters. If you have thoughts (positive or negative) about the Lidl application, I encourage you to submit your comments on the planning portal. I’ll keep working to make sure any development is properly scrutinised and delivers real value for the community.
