Sorry for my incessant rage over this but why are Rayleigh tax payers getting such a raw deal yet again?
A recent report in the Rayleigh Times has stated that Rochford parish Council will contribute £5,000 for 3 CCTV cameras, yet Rayleigh Town Council is expected to contribute £33,000 for 5 cameras, That means Rayleigh Council taxpayers will pay 360% more for their cameras than Rochford,
It’s fair to say I am sceptical of the whole project as I don’t think the need has been properly identified. Is CCTV really the answer to any crime problem in Rayleigh (and this only covers the town centre)? What about street lighting? What about youth services in other areas of our town? What about real policemen? Will CCTV in one area just shift the problem around the corner? I suspect so. This low level crime (if there is such a thing) will move around the corner, maybe outside your house, maybe by that block of garages.
This whole project has taken so long with the focus only on CCTV. Why during this ‘delay’ haven’t the Council been looking at ALL the measures and speaking to their ‘partners’. In a recent video the PFCC Roger Hirst has said that Council officers should be dealing with ASB. YEAH RIGHT….just goes to show how out of touch these Tories really are!
