Yesterday, I attended the Place, Services, and Economic Growth Scrutiny Committee at Essex County Council.
I asked a number of questions and one of the most important, I felt was whether they intend to run a consultation on the rollout of 'school street' schemes. I know that parking around schools can be a highly sensitive subject. It's not only difficult for headteachers to address, but also for local authorities and Councillors.
The problem shouldn't be ignored though, as the safety and health of children should be of paramount importance to us all.
The debate was interesting around the subject and no doubt we will see more of these schemes rolled out over time although given the lack of budget I'm not sure how quickly.
