The cost of living is hitting us all as the Government still doesn't have a grip on inflation. We should all be concerned about the effect that inflation could have on our public services, with a gap in the District Councils budget and a reduction in income from car parks and facilities (think Mill Hall closure, Freight House), where are the Councils finances heading?
This week, I've written to the Section 151 officer at Rochford District Council to ask for an update on the budget pressures and position that the Council is facing. Now is the time for careful finances and if the Conservatives aren't proactive in their approach to trying to head off the effects of inflation then they will have very little options left other than to cut services and increase Council taxes.
The coming months will be challenging for public finances.
