Where Is The Support For Armed Forces Day In Our District?

June 29, 2019 in News

So today, 29th June 2019 it's 'Armed Forces Day', but where is the support for our forces in our district?

I thought I'd check out where the nearest local events to Rayleigh are and given local MP Mark Francois enjoys referencing his involvement in the army so much, the results left me quite surprised!

Some might criticise me as this being a cheap 'shot' at the Conservative MP, but this is a genuine disappointment that Mark has not got himself involved in local matters enough to ensure that Rayleigh and Wickford had an event in support of our armed forces. Like Mark, I too have family that have served in the armed forces. More recently my eldest brother who served in the RAF for 22 years, who I am extremely proud of.

This is another case of our veterans being let down by politicians. In Rayleigh and Wickford the day will pass unnoticed by many of the public. For that I am sad, especially as it would appear our Town Council is happy to hold other events, like the trinity fair is such high esteem. Southend, Castlepoint and Basildon have put Rochford District to shame.

Yes, it would appear they are forgotten heroes by many. If you'd like to attend a local event you can find all the details here.
